Chemistry of Aquatic Systems

Learning Objective:

  • Understanding chemical processes in aquatic systems and how they are connected
  • Quantitative assessment of chemical equilibria to processes in natural waters.
  • Evaluation of analytical data from different aquatic systems.

Content:

The course is an introduction into chemical processes in aquatic systems. The lecutre includes the following topics:

  • Acid-bases reactions
  • Carbonate sytems
  • Solubility of solid phases
  • Weathering
  • Redox reactions
  • Complexation of metals
  • Reactions at solid / water interfaces
  • Apllications on lakes, rivers and groundwater
